What Our Program Is Based On
MLEIP is grounded in the Science of Reading and brings four proven approaches together.
We check progress regularly using trusted assessments such as DIBELS, NWEA MAP and WIDA, and families receive updates on their child’s growth.
Systematic Phonics (UFLI)
Step-by-step instruction in letters, sounds and decoding
Sheltered Instruction (SIOP)
Visuals, oral language practice and partner work that help multilingual learners understand while they learn to read
Guided Reading
Small-group reading with books matched to each child’s level
Explicit Vocabulary
Teaching the words children need to understand what they read
Our Results
In its first year in a third-grade classroom serving multilingual and low-income students:
• Reading proficiency rose from 41% to more than 70% of students
• Students grew 9% on standardized assessments, compared with about 6% typical growth
